It’s the 6th installment of our Meet An Adult Camp Counselor series. Meet Lo.
What is a fun memory you have from Camp Bonfire?
I got to see my good friend Jasmine go up at the talent show to sing one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite movies. She was so nervous to go up and sing, but she KILLED it! That auditorium was filled with so much love and support! I lost my voice just cheering for her, I was so proud!
What do you enjoy about being an adult summer camp counselor?
Being a counselor for adults is rewarding in a refreshing way. I get to see people try new things who’ve gone years without stepping outside of their comfort zone. And when they do, they have so much joy bursting from within them! We rarely get to foster our inner child, the part of us that jumps without inhibition, that says yes even when it’s scary. As counselors we remind the campers that it’s okay to take that leap.
Why did you decide to come back to Camp Bonfire, summer camp for adults?
I feel so at home outdoors. I’m a camp enthusiast! Fresh air and good food and great company is the only way I’d want to spend every day. Even though camp is only a long weekend I’ll take it!
What’s something you’re looking forward at this summer’s Camp Bonfire?
I’m excited to see new faces! I’m also looking forward to catching up with campers from last year.
What do you do for work and/or play when you’re not at Camp Bonfire?
I’m a scenic artist for theater. I build the sets, paint the sets. Sometimes they let me act on the sets! I’m also a professional djembe player, which is a traditional African drum.
